We are getting so close to being done!! We just need to install the pluming, drill some holes and make some external bell siphons.

Operation of the Green Trust aquaponics system

An overview of how our Aquaponics System works. The pump in the fish tank pumps ammonia laden water to the flood tank. The flood tank contains the siphon which regulates the flood/drain cycle of the grow beds (providing oxygen to roots, and preventing them from drowning) . The bacteria in the gravel converts the ammonia to nitrates, which feed the plants, and clean the water being returned to the fish. My mother doesn’t want any kind of small scale livestock?

We had discussed and considered getting a few chickens but she finally decided no. I then discovered aquaponics and told her about how we can farm fish and getting produce. She likes the produce but she isn’t crazy about the fish. I told her it can be done in a small space but she decided she won’t buy anything ugly. All the systems we could get and do our selves involve water troughs/rubbermaid containers so she finally decided no! The only ones she’ll get are the prettier small ones, but they’re just too expensive. My little sister got two hamsters, but I did that when I was younger. I am looking for something I can tend to and grow, but something I can do that is small scale. I already have a dog and two cats not to mention a fish tank.

How much liniment to use/does it work?

Lately, my horse has been sort of sore in his hind end. i’ve been getting him using it much more than last year, so it makes sense he’s sort of sore. it’s sort of counter-productive, because now that he’s sore he won’t use his hind end properly, and he ends up fumbling at the canter. i was thinking about getting some liniment anyway, and i guess now’s a good time. how much will the liniment help? i also need a direct answer on how much to use. "a squirt" is not a valid answer lol. my biotechnology teacher told us to put a "pinch" of fishfood into our Aquaponics System, and apparently my idea of a pinch is way too much and i over fed my fish LOL. so i need direct terms, like "x amount of teaspoons" or "this many tablespoons" per 5 gallon bucket, or 1 gallon bucket, whatever.

oh and also, can i apply it to his neck/back? he used to have some really sore muscles in his back. i had the chiro out for him and she fixed him up, but some days he’s still a little touchy. he is also REALLY stiff in his neck. he can bend it down really well, and he can bring it in between his front legs awesome, but side to side is not good. i do carrot stretches with him, but after a while he realizes he just can’t reach that far and he gives up. so can i use it on his neck? i’ve really only heard of it being used on the legs…
so i don’t water down the gel? the one i’m looking at is the one you mentioned (the absorbine-i love that brand), and it says concentrated gel. i was thinking i would soak some rags/wraps in it, then wrap him. would i just use straight gel on the wraps, or watered down gel?

Liniment is an awesome product! We use it all the time at the hunter barn I ride at. There are several different brands of liniment. We use Absorbine Veterinary liniment (it’s an antiseptic, so it can be used on cuts and it’s an anti-fungal) at my barn. There are two different types, the liquid and the gel. I’ve used both types. I like them both. The gel is pretty quick, you can put it on your hands and rub it on your horses legs. The amount you use depends on the activities you do and the condition your horse is in. I usually use about a quarter size of the gel, rub it on my hands, and rub down my horse’s legs. You don’t want to soak your horse’s legs though-that would be way too much in probably any circumstance. Liniment is pretty powerful stuff, you don’t need a ton of it. Moving on to the liquid liniment…I LOVE the liquid. I put it in a spray bottle and just spray my horses legs with it. Plus, you can put some of it in a bucket with warm water and sponge your horse’s entire body with it. It really helps with stiff, sore muscles along the back and neck. If your horse is having a lot of discomfort in the leg region, you may want to spray some liniment on his legs and wrap them with polo wraps. Also, you may consider putting your horse on joint supplements, especially if you are noticing a lot of discomfort. I’ve been using Next Level liquid joint supplement with my horse and it’s awesome.
