aquaponics systemRod Ingersoll details how he set up an experimental Aquaponics System using his existing fish pond with Koi Carp. Its a basic guide showing you how to build your own Aquaponic system.

Aquaponics is a sustainable, closed-loop farming system where fish waste is used to grow agriculture. Water and nutrients from the fish waste travels into a biological filter, solids are then removed and nutrient rich water flows around the backyard using gravity into two vegetable grow beds. These vegetable beds contain a bell siphon that drains all the water from them every 10mins and flows into two tanks under them. The water movement oxygenates the fish below.

Once i get some silver perch fingerlings they will go in the two black tubs below the grow beds. The I will be able to harvest vegetables and fish and still look at my beautiful Koi Pond.

This experiment was set up prior to travelling to Papua New Guinea where Rod will work with the local people to develop a self sufficient system.
