Aquaponics happens to be a fully natural process mimicking all the rivers, ponds, lakes and other waterways and requiring just one input — the fish food. The fish in the Aquaponics System consumes the food and excretes the waste. The waste is acted upon by beneficial bacteria and gets converted into a form that can be used by the plants. The plants play an ecology sustaining role of purifying the water by consuming the nutrients. Pesticides, herbicides or any other sorts of harsh chemicals cannot be used in the aquaponic system and this makes the fish and plants in such a system safe to be eaten.

Great setup.
Consider using Black Soldier Fly Maggots as fish food, they will practically harvest themselves.
@greensocietytv …
@greensocietytv What is the projected cost and time for construction? Where are you planning to build this and will you help others build the same set up?
I really do like the idea. I could really see a community building something like this but I don’t know any individuals that would be in a position to do so.
Very informative …
Very informative video- Thank you! I’m a Pioneer with an open source sustainable community project called OneCommunityRanch (a .org). We are getting close to setting up an Aquaponics system and are looking for members experienced in this type of growing. We will be growing all our own organic food, build eco homes and share all plans freely with the world to show a new way of living. Please visit our site. I am gathering info for our project. Thank you for this video!
What do you do with …
What do you do with human waste ?
Read the ” Humanure Handbook “, it tells how to compost human waste.
i read some fish …
i read some fish can eat algae off the side of tank so that there is no input
I just had a dream …
I just had a dream about this. What do you do with human waste though?
Fish in tanks..? …
Fish in tanks..? They should be out swimming where they belong, in the sea.
This is a digital …
This is a digital prototype, our estimate is using a continuous 300 watt flow of an air pump… will let you know how it works once the prototype is in effect
only solids …
only solids filtration? will that be enough for the bacteria to nitrify the water? I foresee problems that could be solved with having a fine particle filter added after solids filtration with biomedia and air pumps so that nitrification can occur, and you dont have problems with fine solids collecting on the roots of the plants. The water in the fish tanks is linked at the top? is this correct? this is only what I can see from the diagram. How do you plan to solve the problem of solids at botto
such a big system …
such a big system and a pump of 300 watt per day… at this time, I don’t believe you.
Who can I contact …
Who can I contact to discuss the technologyu behind this system ? I would like to investigate setting up the aquaponics system displayed here. Serious inquiry.
If you can create a …
If you can create a system that can be fitted into the back of a pickup truck, please let me know!!!!
Yes, Noted – 300 …
Yes, Noted – 300 watts continuous, lol… Also another correction.. the Tiger Prawns are supposed to Malaysian prawns.
The fist are fed …
The fist are fed by hand, additional automation could be integrated..
We are planning to …
We are planning to vertical in next version of this design. This application is more for the person that lots of land to play with
what about doing …
what about doing vertical pipes for the plants? vertical growing. there are examples of these on youtube. it saves space so that u can grow more plants in the same area. so that it’s using the space above the horizontal plant areas.
so how are the fish …
so how are the fish fed?
by only the nutrients in the water after leaving the plant tanks?
congratulations!!! …
congratulations!!!! its wonderful project..
i love this, its …
i love this, its amazing to see something i thought about already turned into a graphic
this is great
the only thing ive been working on is incorporating livestock on top of the things incorporated here already
once that is done and worked out as far as kinks go, truly sustainable farming will be a reality
thats pretty epic
thats pretty epic
@0dWHOHWb0 Ya I am …
@0dWHOHWb0 Ya I am assuming they meant 300 watts, or in other words .3kwhr*24hr= 7.2kwh/day.
Why does it list …
Why does it list the pump as using “300 watts per day”?
Watt is a unit of power, not energy, lol.
Amazing. Rebekah …
Amazing. Rebekah Kuby helped with this design. We are implementing it here in Northern California, and an updated system hopefully will be designed as part of University of Hawaii’s AG program. Updates coming soon.
cool way to feed …
cool way to feed your fish and remove bugs is by putting a light just above the water, then the bugs go to the light and fall in the water to become fish food
